The Black Girls Go Global program is a 1-week S.T.E.A.M. educational program where participants travel to a host country to emerge themselves in an educational topic that hits on one or more 17 Sustainable Development Goals (established by the United Nations in 2015) for a better world, cultural, and recreational activities.

THE PROBLEM
A barrier exists for Black women entering S.T.E.A.M.-related careers. The images of scientists in fiction … or in real life … are often depicted as white and male. This dominated image does not resemble Black female students. It engenders a false assumption that Black girls should not aspire to become scientists because either S.T.E.A.M. careers are only designated for white men or the attainment of a S.T.E.A.M. career would go against the accepted traditional gender role. Every Black girl who aspires to pursue a field in science, technology, engineering, the arts, or mathematics should be able to do so.
THE SOLUTION

Black Girls Go Global program is answering that call. Black Girls Go Global will invest in the future of Black girls in S.T.E.A.M. careers and break gender/racial biases that exists in the science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics fields. Society does not draw an accurate nor comprehensive image of the desires of many Black girls. Black girls should begin to envision themselves in careers that have been predominantly occupied by white males.
